Starlink satellites

As of Oct 13, 2026, 11,156 Starlink satellites are in orbit, and 9,726 of them are flying in their operational orbits, according to Jonathan McDowell's tracking. SpaceX has launched 13,015 Starlink satellites in all; 1,859 are no longer in orbit.

Starlink is 65% of every active satellite in orbit, with 9,629 more satellites up than Amazon Leo, OneWeb, Qianfan and Guowang combined.

Where every Starlink satellite is in its life

A Starlink satellite spends its first weeks climbing from its release altitude to its shell, then years in service, then is lowered so the atmosphere can take it down. At any moment a few hundred are on their way up and a few hundred on their way out, which is why the count in orbit is always higher than the count in service. The shells are low on purpose: a satellite that fails there burns up within a few years instead of lingering as debris.

Starlink and the other broadband constellations

Four more broadband fleets are filling low orbit: Amazon Leo in the United States, Eutelsat OneWeb, and China's Qianfan and Guowang. Together they have 1,525 satellites in orbit.
